Dear friends,

We are proud to present "An Atlas," a concert dedicated to the profound sonic worlds of three exceptional composers: Alfred Jiménez Romanenko, Luis Codera Puzo, and Nuño Fernández Ezquerra. The result of a very close collaboration with three of the most interesting voices on the contemporary music scene.

Join us on September 13 at kHaus, Basel and September 14 at Kunstraum Walcheturm, Zürich, both at 20:00.

The present programme is a journey from physicality to transcendence, two seemingly opposite concepts that are reflected in the works by Luis Codera Puzo, Alfred Jiménez and Nuño Fernández Ezquerra respectively.

In SUMMA#01 (2024), by Codera Puzo (Ernst von Siemens Prize 2014) radically explores the sobriety of the material and the refusal to accumulate ideas. It is an extreme concentration on the idea of unity, in which the smallest change is treated as a major musical event. It is the exploration of the pure basis of music.

Our voyage continues rooted in our bodies with Voicemarks (2025, WP) by Jimenez Romanenko, exploring the tight relationship between “existence”, “action”, and “inner motivation”, driving forces in the production of sound. It is a radical research on the phenomenon of sound and how it is intrinsically related to our human existence.

From this grounded experience, we will transition into a work that aims to An Atlas of the Infinite; it is a concert-long piece, conceived as a contemporary ritual. An auditory immersive experience for the modern audience where to abandon oneself in a sea of acoustic and electronic sound. It is a mystical and symbolic journey, exploring the limits of human nature, disembodiment and transcendence. Commissioned for our Signal+ Biennale, this September, the first part (25’) will be premiered, as a little taste of the full concert-long piece that will take place in 2026. We are honoured to premiere this piece with the exceptional musicians Nora Bertogg (soprano), Eva Boesch (cello), Francesco Palmieri (electric guitar), and Eguzki Irusta (electronics).
